If you feel like you are listening to another language when you attend a show...you aren't alone.
Here is a primer to help you decipher the code:

CONFORMATION: To confirm the dog's conformation to the breed standard.

BOB... Best of Breed... is the best Havanese in the show. Period. It can be a champion or a non champion.

BOS... Best of Opposite Sex... Is the best Havanese in the show of whatever sex the BOB winner isn't. Again can be a champion or non champion.

WD*... Winners Dog... is the best Havanese Dog in the show who is NOT already a champion.

WB*... Winners Bitch... is the best Havanese Bitch in the show who is NOT already a champion.

BW... Best of Winners... is the Havanese that the judge thinks is the best between the WD and WB.

* For the NON-champions, classes are divided up.
The classes are:
Puppies 6-9 months
Puppies 9-12 months
Puppies 12-18 months
Bred by Exhibitor
American bred
Open... which is basically any dog over 18 months... BUT... anyone can show in the Open class instead of one of the others, however each dog can only show in one class at each show.

The judge picks the best female from each of these classes... then from that group they pick the WB... the same sequence applies to pick WD.

To be an AKC Champion, you need 15 points. At least 3 different judges have to give you points. And you need at least 2 "majors, which are 3-5 points. "Singles" are what we call the 1 & 2 point wins that can help get to the 15 point total.

Points given are determined by the region you are in and the number of Havanese your pupster beats. 5 point majors are HUGE any way you get them, so we get a little excited about them. LOL. Bragging rights are definitely included with a 5 pointer. <vbg>

EVENTS:
Companion Dog events are the athletic endeavors of the dog world and include Obedience, Agility, and Flyball. ( Note Flyball is not an AKC event.)

leg... A leg is a successful go-round in an event. ie. you need three "legs" in novice obedience to get your first title.
