Flyball
Dogs need to be registered with NAFA to be eligible to compete in their events.
They do NOT have to be purebreds. Nor do they have to be registered with any breed registries.
Dogs may be spayed or neutered.
The height of the hurdles is set at 4 inches shorter than the smallest dog racing in the heat, with a minimum jump height of 8 inches and a maximum of 16 inches.
Many teams LIKE having a small dog on their team to bring down the jump height.

Flyball is quite possibly one of the most fun sports you can do with your dog. If you want to see how much fun your own dogs could be having, you absolutely MUST go see a flyball tournament!!! The dogs go WILD!!! (You might want to take earplugs though. LOL)
Flyball is a team relay race, with each team made up of 4 dogs. There is a 51-foot course that consists of 4 hurdles spaced 10 feet apart with a flyball "box" on one end. The box releases a tennis ball when the dogs step on the spring-loaded base.
Working off lead and individually, the dogs race over all 4 hurdles, step on the box to shoot out the tennis ball, catch the tennis ball and run back over the 4 hurdles. When each dog crosses the starting line, the next member of the relay team goes. The first team to have all 4 dogs run without errors wins the heat. Missed jumps and dropped balls are penalized; requiring the dog to rerun the course after the rest of its team is finished.
This sport was practically designed for the Havanese. It mixes "runlikehell", fetch, a few small jumps and most of all time with their favorite human and canine friends. Hopefully it won't be long before we see Havanese competing in flyball, in much greater numbers than they are now.

Skooter - Ch Precioso de Pies Ligeros, NA, NAJ, FDCh, CGC/TDI - was the very first Havanese to achive the title FDCh (Flyball Dog Champion)!

Titles are earned by points, which are calculated based on the speed of the entire team. All 4 dogs earn the same points per heat. 20 seconds is NOT an unusual time for the ENTIRE team!!! Team members receive 1 point for 28-32 seconds, 5 points for 24-28 seconds and 25 points for 0-24 seconds. There are numerous titles available in flyball as the dog's points accumulate.
